Gardai say there's been a significant clampdown on headshops in Waterford

Last Updated Jul 2010

The Waterford Garda Chief Superintendent says the threat posed by headshops in the city has been reduced significantly.

Legislation to outlaw the sale of psychotropic substances has passed all stages of the Oireachtas and is expected to be signed by the President soon.

In May, the Minister for Health Mary Harney banned the sale of some 200 “legal high” substances.

Pat Murphy says even before that legislation was enacted Gardai in Waterford were taking action.

He is confident the legislation will have the desired effect
