Munster Hurling Final Replay
Waterford 1-16 Cork 1-13
Waterford won an absorbing Munster Hurling final replay last night as Dan Shanahan's extra time goal proved the difference between the two sides.
The game was another tense battle throughout as Waterford led 0-8 to 0-4 at half time.
Cork squandered a number of goal scoring chances while Waterford were full value for their interval lead with five Eoin Kelly points, a brace from John Mullane and a wonderful sideline cut from Richie Foley on the stroke of half time.
Cork though bounced back with a cheeky goal from a Ben O'Connor free early in the second half.
That put Cork 1-8 to 0-9 clear but Waterford had the next four scores through Brian O'Halloran, Eoin Kelly, John Mullane and Shane Walsh.
Shane O'Sullivan pulled off a wonderful save from a John Gardiner penalty that flew over the bar.
Waterford spurned a couple of late oppourtunities as the game finished level 1-11 to 0-14 for the second week running.
The rain teemed down in extra time and the game's defining moment came when Dan Shanahan pounced for a precious goal in the 3rd minute of the second period.
Tony Browne stood defiant in the face of late Cork pressure as Waterford after 90 minutes of play and a second battle against Cork held on for a 4th Munster title in 9 years.
Waterford now move through to the semi-final stages on August 15th at Croke Park.
